The College is seeking graduate level apprentices to support high schools in the Fremont, Newark and Union City school districts. The College would like to strengthen the pathway and services offered to these students by having a consistent presence on the high school campuses. This apprenticeship provides graduate students with the skills, expertise, and experience necessary to enter professional roles in high school and higher education environments. This opportunity will equip apprentices with general and in-depth knowledge into a vast range of student support services and programs.

Position Purpose
The purpose of the Student Services Apprentice (SSA) is to guide high school students on the pathway from High School to Ohlone College. SSAs will develop a relationship with assigned feeder high schools and students by being present on high school campuses. The SSA will provide information, answer questions, and will assist in the recruitment, enrollment and matriculation of Ohlone College feeder high school students.

Duties and Responsibilities
OBJECTIVE
The objective of the Student Services Apprenticeship Program is to develop professionals who can, under the supervision of a designated manager, aid feeder high school students. SSAs will serve a designated location and provide student assistance in career assessment, college applications, financial literacy and applications, matriculation assistance and transition. SSAs will also be versed in various student support programs (i.e. UMOJA, Puente, Career Services, Dreamers/Undocumented, Student Accessibility Services, EOPS, etc.)

SSAs are essential to creating a model for student integration into the college to increase opportunities for success by introducing the college and its services to high school students.

SSAs will be trained to assist students and high school staff in the following areas: admissions, basic residency questions, dual enrollment processes & paperwork, financial literacy, financial aid applications, Dreamer/undocumented access. SSAs will also provide information on Ohlone College programs that include EOPS, Puente, Umoja, SAS, Career Planning, Guided Pathways programs, etc.

SSAs develop skills, abilities, and sensitivities for assisting a diverse student population in an educational setting. SSAs will employ use of technology and communication systems to generate reports, track student progress, inform students of critical information essential to their success at Ohlone and other duties as assigned that support student success.

DURATION
Apprenticeships are renewable on an annual basis. SSAs are eligible to participate in the program for up to three (3) years while enrolled in a qualified educational program and shall work a maximum of 20 hours per week with the assignment spanning 45 weeks per year including regular and summer terms.

ASSESSMENT
SSAs will work under the direction and supervision of a college administrator. Their progress is measured each semester through direct observation, student surveys, mentoring, and ongoing training sessions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Possess a bachelor's degree or equivalent;
B. Enrolled and in good standing at a master's program at a regionally accredited college or university;
C. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills, including presentations;
D. Possess working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs;
E. Possess good record keeping skills with an attention to detail;
F. Possess the ability to provide an equitable and inclusive working and educational environment;
G. Possess sensitivity to people from various academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, religious, gender, physical ability and religious backgrounds.
H. Bilingual competency in Spanish and/or American Sign Language preferred.

Physical Characteristics
WORKING CONDITIONS
SSAs will be assigned to a school site in the Ohlone Community College district, which include the cities of Fremont, Newark and Union City. The work assignment will consist of a maximum of 20 hours per week over a span of 45 weeks. Sixteen (16) hours will be served at the school site over a minimum of two days per week, and four (4) hours will be assigned at the Ohlone College campus for meetings and training activities.

The college is operating remotely for spring 2020 although there will be occasions for the SSAs to come on campus for in-person training and meetings.

Salary Range
SSAs are compensated on a pay scale that offers graduated hourly payrates and steps as follows: Step A: $16.00; Step B:$17.00; Step C:$18.00 and Step C: $19:00. The rate of pay will increase a step for each year that the SSA completes in the program.
