Description of Position:
This position will require that the individual use a variety of counseling techniques and strategies, to provide academic, career, and personal counseling services, and teach counseling/career courses for student athletes as well as non-athletes. Seeking persons with a passion for athletics and desire to serve student athletes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
In addition to contractual duties for this position which will include counseling, teaching and may include program follow up, all faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, in their departmental activities and in the general intellectual life and governance of the college. Part of the counseling assignment may be in the evening program. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Assisting students with decision making and the exploration of their educational, career, and personal goals
2. Working with students to develop educational plans
3. Adhering to the schedule that has been developed with the Department Chairpersons, which may include individual student appointments, drop-in assignments, workshops, and weekend and/or evening assignments
4. Assist in the coordination and instruction of counseling classes and learning communities for student athletes
5. Collaborating with instructional faculty in support of the goals of the institution
6. Collaborating with the Athletic department to support student athletes in meeting CCCCA & NCAA eligibility requirements.
7. Participating in the college governance process, including attendance at all department and division meetings, and serve on college-wide committees
8. Promoting the philosophy that integrates counseling and mentoring to support student learning
9. Participating in required training and activities such as conferences, regional meetings, outreach, orientations for students, community activities and social / cultural events, field trips, mentorship, advisory groups, etc.
10. Participating in professional development activities, both departmental and collegewide

11. Creating a positive environment that provides students with the support/motivation likely to enable them to transfer
12. Maintaining current knowledge of counseling techniques and other effective student support intervention strategies
13. Engaging in outreach targeting feeder high schools and community groups
14. Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics
15. Supporting the Counseling presence in the Student Centers
16. Performing other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:
Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.

1. Masters degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, family and child counseling; OR
2. Bachelors degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); OR
3. A valid lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential authorizing full- time counseling: OR

Desirable Qualifications:
1. Possess an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
2. Experience, post masters degree, working as an athletic counselor in a California community college.

3. Knowledge of athletic compliance requirements with ability to assure adherence to CCCAA, NCAA, NAIA and District rules and regulations as they relate to student athletes.
4. Proven ability to support and lead efforts to assist in retention and success of community college students.
5. Demonstrated understanding of the comprehensive nature of California Community College Counseling, which includes providing high quality academic, career, personal counseling, both one-on-one and through teaching/instruction, including but not limited to developing an educational plan specific to student athletes.
6. Experience teaching and designing curriculum for college-level courses and/or workshops in areas such as college success, career planning/exploration, educational planning, and personal development, including but not limited to curriculum directly supporting student athletes.
7. Knowledge of the California community college transfer process to public and private four-year institutions both within and outside of California.
8. Experience providing information about campus-based programs such as DSPS, EOPS, transfer and academic support, articulation, student employment and career services, and work experience.
