Position Description
Provides leadership and administration within a college or school, in accordance with established guidelines, university policy and/or governmental regulations.

Major/Essential Functions
The Texas Tech College of Architecture (CoA) seeks an Associate Dean for Research (ADR), who will play an important role in shaping the CoAs goals in leading critical discussions in architectural and urbanism research, as well as design research and innovation. The ADR is an administrative role within the CoA with direct oversight of tenure and promotion for CoA faculty, faculty development, research grants and opportunities, grants oversight, research assessment within CoA, and guidance of all centers and research units of the CoA. The successful candidate will set forth a vision for constructing a research culture within the CoA that builds on and broadens existing collaborative research efforts and individual faculty research and contribute to the CoAs increased prominence and emphasis on design excellence. The position will require teaching within the core curriculum of the CoA, as well as the broad integration of research activities of the faculty within the pedagogy of the CoA at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels. The ADR works directly with the Dean of the CoA, the Associate Dean of Academics, the Executive Director of the CoA, and the Department Chair.

The ideal candidate will be a strong leader and effective communicator, able to provide positive, clear, and innovative guidance on developing the strategic plan for the CoAs Office of Research & Innovation. The ideal candidate will have a committed and proven ability to work with a diverse body of faculty and diverse student populations. The ideal candidate should be tenured or should be able to demonstrate a record of teaching, creative work/research and service that is commensurate with tenure at Texas Tech at the Associate or Full Professor level.

Candidates should possess a strong record of personal accomplishments (scholarly or creative activity), a record of collaboration, a record of securing federal and foundational funding for their own personal or team initiatives, and a record of distinguished and/or innovative research, demonstrating fluency in design research and activity. The candidate should thus have a record of excellent administrative experience, distinguished teaching, and while a Ph.D. is preferred, individuals with a professional or terminal degree in architecture or related fields are enthusiastically encouraged to apply.



Required Qualifications
A terminal degree in Architecture; in addition, progressively responsible managerial experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A terminal degree in Architecture (professional M. Arch degree or equivalent international degree or professional equivalency
  • A strong research and creative work agenda;
  • A record of collaboration;
  • A record of distinguished and/or innovative research, demonstrating fluency in design research and activity; and
  • A distinguished teaching experience in the area of expertise.
  • Post-professional degree in the area of expertise
  • Ph.D. degree in the area of expertise and/or equivalent experience in professional practice
  • A record of grants management oversight
  • A record of securing federal and foundational funding for personal or team initiatives
  • Administrative experience
