Assistant Director of Counseling Services
California College of the Arts

Under the supervision of the Director of Counseling Services, the Assistant Director assists in the supervision and coordination of personal counseling and mental health services to the CCA community. The Assistant Director also assists in the administration and coordination of the Counseling Services Psychology Internship Training Program, consults with staff and faculty on issues pertaining to student mental health and art school, and oversees mental health outreach and education activities provided to CCA students.

This position will be based on the San Francisco campus, and require one day on the Oakland campus. This is a 30 hour/week position that includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Main Responsibilities:
Assists the Director in all aspects of Counseling Services, including: teaching, administration, service delivery, and coordination of the psychology internship training program.
Contributes to the development of the training program curriculum, department policies and procedures, and clinical forms.
Provides weekly individual and group supervision to intern counseling staff.
Provides weekly counseling to students.
Facilitates a weekly professional development seminar for the counseling interns.
Responsible for overseeing and coordinating guest instructors' involvement in the internship training program.
Provides trainings to student leader groups and workshops to students on mental health, creativity, and issues related to art school.
Responsible for the development and oversight of the counseling department's participation in orientation workshops to all incoming CCA students. This includes training and supervising interns' involvement in orientation presentations.
Coordinates and oversees interns' clinical hours schedule.
Oversees clinical file reviews for the interns.
Coordinates and oversees the delivery and collection of the Student Satisfaction Survey and its data.
Supervises interns' in the development and delivery of workshops and outreach services offered to students in the Residential halls and on-campus.
Acts as a liaison with various Student Affairs staff in the coordination of outreach services to various student groups.
Provides crisis management services to students.
Provides in-service training to Residential Life staff.
Participates in the application review, interviewing, selection process, and evaluation of counseling service interns.
Assists in the appropriate maintenance of records, preparation of reports, compliance with legal/ethical requirements, and other program administrative functions.
Along with the Director of Counseling, shares the responsibility of providing clinical coverage and support to interns during hours of operation.
Provides counseling department coverage in the absence of the Director of Counseling Services.
Performs additional duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology, and licensed in California as a psychologist. Significant clinical experience with young adults, and high level of competency with a wide range of clinical issues. Must have the ability to supervise counseling interns and participate in coordinating and teaching for the psychology internship training program. Prior teaching experience required. Knowledge of the college environment and of the special issues and needs of students of the arts required. Must be well-versed in the theory and practice of contemporary relational psychoanalytically-oriented psychotherapy, and be open to continuing to develop professionally in tune with the changing needs of CCA students. Appreciation of multiculturalism and experience working with a diverse population is required. Experience in brief psychodynamic therapy and a personal background or interest in the arts is desired. Familiarity with the local community of psychologists who can teach or supervise for the intern training program is desired.
