Job Description

Simmons University is looking for an Admission Counselor to join the Office of Undergraduate Admission. Reporting to the Senior Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission, the Admission Counselor will be responsible for the recruitment and counseling of prospective undergraduate students. The Admission Counselor will be responsible for managing a geographic territory to conduct recruiting efforts, and evaluating and counseling first year and transfer students from the prospect stage through their full enrollment cycle. Additionally, the Admission Counselor will be expected to travel to regional and national recruitment events, interview prospective students and meet with their families, as well as evaluate undergraduate admission applicants.

Responsibilities:
  • Recruit, evaluate and counsel first year students from specific geographic territories from the prospect stage through enrollment. The territories will be assigned to the Admission Counselor annually and may be changed at the discretion of the management team;
  • Plan and carry out travel to college fairs and high schools to speak with prospective students, their parents, and college counselors. This position will travel approximately 10-12 weeks in the fall and 4-6 weeks in the spring and summer. Travel may be virtual, regional, or national; trips may last up to 3 weeks each; and the Admission Counselor may work 3-4 nights per week and on weekends during their trips;
  • Serve as the primary application reviewer for assigned recruitment territory. This will include significant file reading, evaluation, and the recommendation of decisions-- approximately 550 files per year;
  • Participate in all on-campus recruitment events as well as those hosted off campus and virtually when appropriate, including 10-20 weekend/holiday events per year;
  • Develop communications and contact students, families, and counselors to motivate and assist students in moving through all points in the admission funnel;
  • Identify key priorities and needs of individual students and their family and use appropriate communications to influence their decision to enroll;
  • Identify and develop new opportunities and entry points in the prospect funnel with the goal of increasing the enrollment of qualified students;
  • Oversee projects within the Office of Undergraduate Admission as assigned;
  • Assist colleagues in their travel, events, interviews, projects, and application review as needed; including assisting with transfer, adult and online students.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required;
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License required;
  • Ability to travel both regionally and nationally for at least 16-18 weeks per year. Travel may be regional or national, and is not restricted to the established territory of the counselor. In addition, the specific geographic territory and/or populations will be assigned to the Admission Counselor yearly and may be changed at the discretion of the management team;
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to demonstrate active listening;
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment;
  • Strong cross-cultural interpersonal skills; professional and friendly in-person, virtually and on the phone;
  • Committed to stellar customer service with timely, positive and effective responses to all inquiries and constituents.
