Primary Purpose of Organization Unit:
To provide clinical mental health services to students of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
Primary Purpose of Position:
To provide direct therapeutic and diagnostic counseling and/or education to students experiencing social, emotional, and/or academic concerns. In addition, this position is responsible for case management, including coordinating and monitoring care, facilitating referrals to Student Health Services, community providers, and other resources, and ensuring appropriate follow-up for students of concern. The role also supports the CAPS team's prevention and intervention efforts, serves on appropriate university committees, and completes other duties as assigned by the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services.
Job Description:
The position is responsible for providing therapeutic and diagnostic counseling and/or education to students experiencing social, emotional, and academic concerns related to mental health, administering and interpreting assessment instruments for the diagnosis of mental illness, and supporting the CAPS team's prevention and intervention work through direct clinical services, outreach to the university community, and participation in Student Affairs events and committees. A significant component of the role includes case management, serving as a member of the Consultation, Advocacy, Resources, and Education (CARE) Team and acting as a liaison between Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Student Health Services, and other campus partners to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care. This involves developing and maintaining a case-management system to monitor high-risk students, facilitating hospitalizations, treatment, and post-discharge follow-up, and connecting students with appropriate community and campus resources. To complete other duties as assigned by the Director of the Counseling and Psychological Services.

Management Preference:

Lic or Certifications Required by Statute or Regulation: North Carolina Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor or North Carolina Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or North Carolina Licensed Practicing Psychologist or equivalent credentials. Provisional licensed individuals will be considered if they have the experience required for the position.
