Description of Basic Functions and Responsibilities

Overview:

The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District (Shasta College) sits at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley, surrounded by mountains to the north, east, and west. General Responsibilities
Under administrative leadership, it is the responsibility of the Educational College Counselor to provide support and educational guidance to our dual enrolled student population.

Specific Responsibilities
Responsibilities designated below are primary to the educational college counselor role. Some of the listed professional responsibilities are examples of activities, which are part of the unique role of each educational college counselor and are reflective of their individual expertise and interests.

Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability
In addition to the above, the individual will
  • Provide Counseling services to students including: Academic Counseling, Career Counseling, Ed Plan Development, and coordination with other counseling services.
  • Provide academic advising and counseling services to our diverse dual enrollment population.
  • Assist students in clarifying academic/career goals and developing educational plans.
  • Assist in developing programs and services that will attract and retain a diversified student population.
  • Provide general orientation and group advising to students on campus and at partnering high school sites via courses, workshops, interactive teleconferencing, and/or e-mail.
  • Aid in the development of high school specific pathways utilizing dual enrolled, concurrent, articulated, and online facilitated courses which correlate with our Shasta College guided pathways to ease the transition from high school to college.
  • Serve on committees, participate in faculty governance, and student activities.


Experience/Education

Minimum qualifications: Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling,
OR the equivalent.

Equivalency
The state of California has established minimum qualifications for academic positions in California Community Colleges to promote professionalism, instructional integrity, and academic rigor. The primary minimum qualification for academic positions is an advanced degree in the relevant subject matter for the position.
