Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing Mental Health counseling services to Gordon State College students.

Responsibilities

Provides students with mental health counseling.
Maintains confidential records of student sessions.
Develops and facilitates structured groups, workshops, presentations, and counseling outreach programs.
Provides crisis counseling to students.
Identifies and develops appropriate community referrals.
Promotes the adoption of healthy lifestyle choices for mental, emotional and social health.
Supports students with evaluations of admission withdrawals, deferrals and transfers.
Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
Attends and participates in staff meetings.
Participates in continuing education as mandated by Georgia state licensure.
Performs related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a master's degree in a Counseling field.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship and having had a similar position for one year.
Licensed as an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) in the State of Georgia.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of the principles and practices of counseling services in the context of higher education.
Knowledge of federal and state laws related to counseling and disability services.
Knowledge of counseling principles as related to at-risk populations and crises.
Knowledge of University System of Georgia Board of Regents policies and procedures.
Skill in the provision of counseling services to a diverse student body.
Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
Skill in decision-making and problem-solving.
Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
Skill in oral and written communication.

Salary range for this position is $43,888 - $46,800
