Position Summary:
Provide counseling service to college students: counseling (individual and group), intake assessments, crisis intervention, mandated assessments, referrals, treatment planning, and documentation. Present educational programs and trainings that contribute to the student learning objectives of the division of student affairs; provide consultation to the campus community; advise student groups. Work collaboratively with medical providers in a multi-disciplinary setting. Participate as a member of the internship training team by supervising trainees and participating in the selection process. Provide co-leadership, oversight and training for our Master's level practicum counselor training program.
Work with the Office of Student Accountability & Restorative Practices to coordinate substance use assessments. Serve on the CARE team as a representative of CHWS. Assist students in accessing on and off -campus healthcare providers. This position is designed to improve student wellness, enhance student learning and success, and improve retention.
Mental Health Clinician and Referral Specialist is a specialized position that blends collaboration and consultation with colleagues and care providers within the college as well as care providers and agencies off-campus to identify and coordinate a range of support for students who are experiencing challenges that impede their personal well-being and academic success. This position creates and maintains a culture of proactive care for students of concern across faculty, staff, and student community members by providing coordination of student referrals on and off campus, with a special focus on off-campus referrals.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Clinical and Other Services Responsibilities (25%)
- Individual and group therapy, workshops
- Assessment: intake, mandated suicide and self-harm risk assessment, mandated substance use assessments
- Crisis intervention: during and after hours as needed
- Consultation with university staff, faculty, students, parents, etc.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of treatment via department EHR
Student Healthcare Navigation (50%)
- Provide coordination of student referrals and develop systems for tracking, documenting, and following up on cases via Maxient software.
- Assist referred students and students who self-refer in making use of community resources; including but not limited to, helping students connect with appropriate offices, generating referrals, and following up as needed with offices to which the student has been referred.
- Provide general case management addressing the off-campus needs of students in distress, including but not limited to mental health issues, physical health issues, and other barriers that may impede a student's success.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local treatment providers, hospitals, and other medical providers as appropriate in order to support students.
- Develop and maintain relationships with insurance navigators, DSHS offices, or other community organizations to coach referred students on the navigation of medical health insurance and overall well-being coaching.
- Work with students to identify and develop a plan for using off-campus referrals to support their continued success at the college.
- Conduct an initial student/family intake for newly enrolled students related to health inquiries and concerns and outgoing health coaching near degree completion.
- Consult with faculty, staff, and parents as needed to provide coordinated care as student crises arise.
- Assist with transitional support for off-campus referrals for students when they re-enroll after a stop out due to an issue of concern.
Prevention (5%)
- Coordinate, delegate and provide educational and wellness workshops for students
- Coordinate, delegate and provide substance use assessments, including those mandated through student conduct and collaborate with the Office of Student Accountability &
- Restorative Practices staff on program administration
- Engage in continuing professional education, including representing the University in regional or national substance abuse prevention and other prevention related organizations
Training Responsibilities (15%)
- Co-Lead our Master's or Pre- Doctoral level Practicum counselor training program.
- Participate in all aspects of our APA accredited Doctoral Psychology Internship, including intern selection, training, supervision.
- Provide and elicit regular evaluative feedback about intern performance and progress
Other duties as assigned include, but are not limited to (5%)
- Serve on division and college committees
- Remain professionally active and current with knowledge and practice
Supervisory Responsibilities
Clinical supervision of master's level and pre-doctoral practicum students

Qualifications:
- Master's degree in counseling or social work
- Completion of an accredited Master's program in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy, or Social Work
- WA Psychology license eligible within 6 months of employment
- Two or more years post-license (psychology) experience
- Well-developed clinical and diagnostic skills
- Well-developed organizational and interpersonal skills
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness to function as an integral team member within the department (Counseling, Health, & Wellness Services) and the division (Student Affairs)
- Competency with and commitment to multicultural counseling and professional ethics

- Ability to respectfully work, communicate, and provide leadership within a diverse campus community
Preferred:
- University counseling center experience as a trainee and/or therapist
- Experience training and/or supervising psychology graduate students

- Skills in utilizing social media to promote wellness
Compensation and Benefits:
The anticipated range for this position is $31.25 - $33.65 hourly. Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.

-Positions that work less than .75 FTE (1,560 hours per year) do not qualify for long-term disability or education benefits.

-Temporary positions that work at least .50 FTE (1,040 hours per year) will be eligible for benefits.
