Job Summary

A Social worker or counselor responsible for assessing and managing students, faculty, and staff's emotional, social, psychological, or individual needs for the Social Services/Mental Health Center. Perform crisis intervention when necessary and establish a strong community network for referrals.



Essential Functions

Perform therapeutic and crisis intervention as appropriate for the Social Services/Mental Health Center. Conduct bio-psycho-social assessments needs for clients. Diagnose and treat emotional and behavioral problems in accordance with professional standards of practice. Provide individual and crisis intervention counseling as appropriate. Refer clients to college and community or agency resources (e.g., housing, food banks, general assistance, mental health services) as needed. Conduct follow-up on referral status and client progress.



Maintain confidentiality and privacy of records in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.



Work with affiliated colleges and universities for student clinical placement and supervision. Lead and inspire student interns to maintain the integrity of the department and quality standards of inpatient care. Maintain a professional work environment.



Collect and analyze data on clients served. Determine future activities and actions based on data and maintain accurate records including reports. Meet with college administrators to review activities and goals.



Generate and maintain a network of community partners. Attend periodic meetings with partners and community organizations. Assist in the implementation of new partnership agreements to enhance client needs. Work collaboratively with college departments and personnel across multiple campuses. Ensure departmental goals are maintained and met.



Perform other duties as assigned.



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:



  1. Master's Degree and two (2) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.




NOTE: A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and reflect completed coursework and degrees conferred. The candidate must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application.



  1. Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).




  1. Experience working in a College or University setting.




  1. Experience working in a counseling or therapeutic setting.




  1. Effective communication (both oral and written) skills and active listening skills.




  1. Ability to interpret and implement policies and procedures.




  1. Experience working within State of Texas rules and regulations for social workers and/or mental health counselors.




  1. Ability to effectively utilize regional community resources to meet client needs.

Transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a full translation (word for word) by a current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). Additionally, each foreign transcript must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited coursework by an agency certified by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services or granting institution, if accredited by one of the regional accrediting bodies such as Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Applications containing foreign transcripts that are not accompanied with the above required documentation will not be considered.

Out-of-town candidates invited for an on-campus interview will be reimbursed for one-half of the transportation cost for travel performed within the United States. The College will arrange and pay for up to two nights lodging.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
