Job Description

The responsibilities of this position are to carry out the Office of Student-Athlete Academic Services' mission of supporting the Boston College academic community and Athletics Department in our mission to pursue student-athlete excellence, student-athlete formation, and a just society by remaining committed to integrity, ethics, and honesty.

The Academic Counselor/Tutorial Coordinator will deliver comprehensive academic services to student-athletes by facilitating educational, personal, and career development services. The position will work collaboratively with colleagues to develop individualized academic plans, coordinate study table, mentoring and tutorial services. This position will travel with athletic teams as needed.

As an Academic Counselor, this position will monitor student-athlete academic progress by meeting with student-athletes, communicating with faculty, and reviewing academic progress and tutorial reports. This position will develop graduation, student-athlete success, and career plans by collaborating with university academic advisors and other campus partners.
As a Tutorial Coordinator, this position will assist with the coordination of tutor and mentor appointments while overseeing the day-to-day operations of both virtual and in-person appointments. Furthermore, this position recruit, training, and evaluate tutors, mentors, and part-time staff, ensuring training and development of tutors consistent with College Reading and Learning Association standards.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $55,000 to $68,750; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required Education, Counseling, Sports Management, English or related field
  • Master's degree preferred; Counseling, Education, Higher Education Administration, Sports Administration or related field
  • Two to three years of previous experience working with students in an educational setting, preferably in an intercollegiate athletics environment; Teaching, Higher education, academic advising, counseling, academic support services, or related field
  • Demonstrated ability to work with academically challenged students and students with learning disabilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills; Ability to communicate both orally and in writing to various audiences
  • Strong computer skills; Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and GradesFirst/Navigate
  • Knowledge of NCAA and Atlantic Coast Conference rules and requirements
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and travel as needed with athletic teams
  • Must be able to demonstrate professionalism and effectively interact with a diverse population of students, coaches, and university administrators.
