About the Position:
The Office of Outreach, Recruitment and Titan Orientation Programs serves prospective and incoming students, and other interested parties in the information seeking, application, orientation, and enrollment process as it relates to California State University Fullerton and the CSU. Our office provides campus tours, informational workshops, preadmission advisement, new and transfer student orientations and facilitates general admissions information. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as an Outreach, Recruitment and Orientation Counselor (Student services Professional II). The ideal candidate for this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the direction of the Director of Outreach, Recruitment and Titan Orientation Programs, guided by the lead of the Assistant Directors, the Outreach, Recruitment and Orientation Counselor collaborates with internal and external partners to implement programs designed to recruit, retain, and graduate a diverse student body. Provides preadmission advisement to prospective students, parents, school counselors, and community agencies both internal and external to the university. Assists with the application process, academic major selection and preparation, and pre-enrollment procedures. Represents the campus at virtual and in-person recruitment programs such as school site visits, college fairs, parent meetings, community forums, and other outreach events to reach the enrollment management goals of the university. Coordinates large and small scale events, one-on-one appointments, and phone and e-mail communications to advise prospective students in support of outreach and recruitment efforts. Counselors supports and coordinates Orientation of new students. Responsible for various aspects of large-scale event planning such as Experience CSUF: Become a Titan, Information Stations, Leadership Conferences, and other events. Other related duties as assigned


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or a related field. A masters degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience. Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational management, research, and interview techniques. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews, and advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Ability to reason logically and use initiative in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements. Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and of the overall organization.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of new student orientation programming and first year student issues in a college or university setting. Experience overseeing student staff. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Familiarity with social media and publication software. Ability to participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences and interviews. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in Higher Education, College Student Personnel or related field.


Special Working Conditions:

Occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekend hours. High level group and interpersonal interactions with a variety of constituents, mainly students. Comfort and skill in presenting information to large audiences (400+) of students and family members.
